Sky Bet Championship club Derby County are set to miss out on the signing of Hearts defender Callum Paterson according to the Derby Telegraph.

The 22-year-old London born full-back is set to leave Tynecastle in the summer after seven years of service with the Scottish Premiership club.

The youngster is set to move south of the border as he looks to take his career to the next level and it has been reported that a number of Sky Bet Championship clubs are chasing the player’s signature. Derby County, Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic have all been linked with Paterson in recent weeks however it is believed that the defender is set to sign a pre-contract agreement with Cardiff City.

The player is a product of the academy system at Hearts and Paterson has gone on to make 158 appearances for The Jambos, scoring 38 goals.

Paterson is out of contract with Hearts in the summer and it has been reported that a tribunal fee of around £450,000 would be payable to the Edinburgh based club. The player is currently ruled out of action for the remainder of the current campaign with a serious injury and may not return to training until the beginning of next season.
