Sheffield Wednesday’s star midfielders close to return

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has told the club website that both Sam Hutchinson and Kieran Lee are close to a return to the first team.

Lee, a 28-year-old midfielder, has been unable to play for Wednesday since he was forced to undergo surgery on his hip after a longstanding injury. There were fears that the former Oldham Athletic man might be out for the rest of the season but Carvalhal has revealed that the fan favourite returned to full training on Saturday and is closing in on a return to the first team.

And this is not the only good news for a side that has suffered with plenty of injuries throughout the season. Hutchinson has also been out for a few weeks and while it will still be some time until he does return, Carvalhal has said that he is also making good progress and that he should be back in the starting line-up before the end of the season.

He said: “After the break we have started to recover players, we are not full yet.”

“Kieran Lee started training on Sunday, let’s see the reaction in the next days.”
“We expect also to recover Sam and why am I talking about this? Because we want all the players available.”
“We want to be with a full squad and after choose the 11. We trust in all the players to go into the 11 but it makes a big difference when we play with players that can link the game.”
“I have talked about that before and the reality is that, since we have come back after the break, we have one draw and four wins in a row. Let’s see now to the future.”[interaction id=”58f62094240e61ee26bf288d”]
