Gary Rowett set to cause a big change at Derby County

Derby County head coach Gary Rowett has told the Derby Telegraph that is going to make a big change to the team during the summer.

While it seemed likely for a while, Derby’s 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town yesterday meant they officially cannot make the Sky Bet Championship play-offs. After initially expecting to be in the mix last summer after they appointed Nigel Pearson as their head coach, this year has been a huge disappointment for the Rams now that they are on their third manager and look no closer to getting back to the Premier League.

And now Rowett has confirmed that he will be looking to make a big change to the squad in the summer. It will be his first time to bring players in since his appointment earlier in the year and he’ll be hoping to make an impact so that this Derby side will be challenging for promotion next season.

He said: “I am not going to go into massive detail on that because the players on the whole have done well and we have got some really good players,”

“If you look at the form over six games we have lost one game but at the same time that is not going to cloud my judgement in terms of what we need to do moving forward.”

“Even if we had won every game, I still think I would be clear on what is needed.”

“The reality is while it is an opportunity for players to play their way into our plans we also know what is needed and I know there is going to be quite a big change in the summer.”

“That might be some players that are not playing, it might be some players who have not featured this season so therefore if they have not featured they have not added value so we need to try to change that.”

“Some might need an opportunity to go and play, which is natural, and we might need to bring in some that will offer us something different alongside that.”
