Opinion: The 3 Most Entertaining Teams in the Championship

The Championship is often called the most entertaining league in the world, with almost every team operating a completely different system.

This year more than ever the Championship has seen a rise in tactical diversity with the arrival of Jaap Stam’s possession based 4-3-3 Dutch system at Reading, and the introduction to Slavisa Jokanovic’s free-scoring Fulham side.

New boys Barnsley have been adventurous going forward, which is refreshing to see from a newly promoted side, and Championship debutants Burton Albion have demonstrated how an organised back 5 can help the minnows of the division compete with any team in the division.

Preston have also come on leaps and bounds under Simon Grayson, and the introduction of Tom Barkhuizen alongside Aiden McGeady has turned The Lilywhites into a dangerous attacking force.

With so many playing styles on show, we’ve been treated to one of the most entertaining Championship seasons in recent memory, but it begs the question, which side is the most entertaining to watch? Here are, in my opinion, the top 3 most interesting and entertaining sides to watch this season.

3. Preston North End

Last season was an excellent début season as far as laying the groundworks for Simon Grayson’s Preston side, and this season, whilst the table doesn’t show it, they look a much more complete side.

A physically imposing side, Preston have won the 5th most aerial duels on average (52.1%) in the Championship and possess two of the division’s form players in Tom Barkhuizen and Aiden McGeady.

Defensive frailties have prevented Grayson’s side from challenging for the Play-Offs, but in recent weeks, 3-0 and 5-0 wins over Reading and Bristol City have shown just what Preston are capable of.
