Championship sides Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Greenock Morton defender Thomas O’Ware this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
O’Ware, 24, plays as a centre-back for Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton but is also comfortable playing at left-back or in defensive midfield. The defender has had a fine season for his club, making 43 appearances and scoring a very impressive ten goals from defence.
This form has attracted Championship clubs Birmingham and Wolves, who could both do with someone to come in and help sure up their defence. Both clubs have had disappointing seasons, and Birmingham could still suffer relegation to League One. Scottish Premiership side Celtic and Rangers are also reportedly interested in signing the defender.
O’Ware joined Greenock Morton in 2011 and has since gone on to make 167 appearances for the club. This season has been the defender’s most successful with the club, helping Greenock Morton to fourth in the league. O’Ware also won the Scottish Championship Player of the Month award for October 2016.
It is understood that scouts are scheduled to watch O’Ware in his upcoming games with Greenock Morton, and this could lead to a bid from a Championship side.
A defender with an eye for goal, O’Ware could certainly add something to Birmingham or Wolves meaning the clubs could start a battle for the player’s services this summer.
