Nottingham Forest are only going to get better

Nottingham Forest’s Ben Osborn has told the Nottingham Post that the team can only get better under new head coach Mark Warburton.

Forest have struggled all season and are currently involved in a relegation battle, though they have slowly started to pull away since Warburton became their new manager. And Forest showed their potential this weekend when they came away with a shock 2-0 victory over promotion chasing Huddersfield Town, with goals from Eric Lichaj and Jamie Ward paving the way to a win.

And after that win, Osborn says they can only get better the longer that Warburton is manager. He said that the team are still learning the passing style of play that the former Brentford head coach wants and that when they do master it, they could become one of the best teams in the Sky Bet Championship and a force to be reckoned with.

Following the win, Osborn said: “We don’t really have the players to play long. So it suits us down to the ground. We just need to be brave on the ball, we need to want the ball and we have to look after it when we have got it,”

“Everyone has to buy into it. We have to look for the ball from the keeper, we have to give him options. When somebody is on the ball, we need to ensure they have two, three or four options every time.”

“We need to work together and work our socks off when you have got the ball and when you have not.”

“We have changed the whole style of play. He does not want to go long under almost any circumstances.”

“There is little point in playing the ball up to Britt (Assombalonga), when he is up against two 6ft 5in central defenders.”

“We are better off playing through. We can hurt teams, because we have the players in the side who can do that.”

“It is something we need to work on. Once we master playing out from the back, we have the players around us who are good enough to do it.”
