Norwich City

Three talking points from the Championship this weekend

The games left in the Championship ticked down from six to five this weekend, giving us a better idea of how the table will finish up. From 8 goal thrillers to a new leader, this weekend had it all.

Reading annihilated by Canaries

In perhaps one of the most shocking Football League scorelines in recent years, Reading had their backsides handed to them by Norwich City. The 7-1 demolishing at Carrow Road had a massive 6 first half goals, Hoolahan and Pritchard bagging 2 each. By the time the Royals steadied their ship with Yann Kermorgant’s 39th minute goal it was already too late. Cameron Jerome compiled the travelling fans’ misery with a last minute tap in, completing the 7-1 rout.

Magpies slip up in title hunt

Brighton and Hove Albion put all the pressure on Newcastle with their Friday night victory away at QPR with goals coming from Murray and Pocognoli. The Magpies then crumbled to the pressure with their trip to Hillsborough, losing 2-1 themselves to Sheffield Wednesday. Jonjo Shelvey’s late consolation wasn’t enough to stop the Owls getting a huge three points in their bid for promotion via the play offs.

Bristol City give themselves fighting chance

The red half of Bristol are seriously fighting for their Championship status and gave themselves a massive boost with a 3-1 victory at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers. With Blackburn’s 2-0 home defeat to Barnsley, the Robins have gone four points clear of the relegation zone. The Easter Monday clash at Ewood Park is even more crucial now if Rovers want to have any chance of survival.
