QPR goalkeeper listed as potential Bournemouth target

QPR’s Alex Smithies is a potential target for Bournemouth according to a report from The Sun.

The Cherries have made it clear that they want to sign a new goalkeeper this summer after becoming unhappy with Artur Boruc as their current number one. Right now, their main target is Chelsea’s Asmir Begovic. He was seen as a top class goalkeeper when he was at Stoke City but has now got bored of being stuck on the Chelsea bench with no chance of ousting their number one Thibault Courtois and is looking for a move. Bournemouth are hoping to be the team he moves to.

However Begovic is likely to be on big wages and so the south coast club may not be able to pull the move off so they are looking at other targets they may be able to bring in. And one of the players that has been listed as a target is QPR’s Alex Smithies. The former Huddersfield Town goalkeeper has been a star player for the R’s even as they been stuck in mid-table, with his great performances being part of the reason the West London side haven’t slipped into a battle against relegation.

Right now QPR fans shouldn’t be too worried about losing one of their star men as he is not Bournemouth’s main priority because they are still concentrating on trying to sign Begovic. But should their move for the Bosnian international fall through, they are prepared to make an attempt to try and sign Smithies.
