Murphy, Newcastle United will not have enjoyed playing against Burton Albion

Newcastle United will not have enjoyed playing against Burton Albion

Burton Albion’s Luke Murphy has told the Burton Mail that he believes that Newcastle United will not have enjoyed playing against them last night.

With the Brewers fighting relegation and the Magpies at the top of the Sky Bet Championship, it seemed like it would be a slam dunk result for Newcastle but Burton made sure they had to fight for a result. It did seem like Newcastle had taken the lead in the first half through a controversially disallowed penalty which is currently attracting all the headlines, though Burton were able to hold until a brilliant goal from Matt Ritchie decided the game.

But even though they went home with a loss, Murphy was pleased with the way the team played and made it difficult for Newcastle. He believes with the way he made them work that Newcastle will not have enjoyed the game last night even though they inched close to a return to the Premier League.

He said: “The lads put a great shift in, we worked our socks off for the whole game,”

“Then they have scored a top-corner goal, with his weak foot as well. So we can’t really be too hard on ourselves. We’ve come to top of the league, they’ve got Premier League players.”

“We have put a real good shift in, and we had our chances ourselves, we could’ve maybe nicked a goal as well. But we’ve been done by a worldie of a goal.”

“I’m sure if you asked them, I don’t think they’d have enjoyed it too much.”

“And especially after the result on Saturday, we came in, applied ourselves really well and we’ve got a big game on Saturday now (against Aston Villa).”

“Hopefully we can get the three points at home and give ourselves a really good chance of staying in this division.”
