Bristol City close to sacking Lee Johnson

Bristol City are close to sacking their head coach Lee Johnson according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Johnson has been under some pressure for a while now after the Robins squandered a promising start to the season with a run of poor form which took them into the relegation battle. And the side were at their worst yesterday as Preston North End completely smashed them, winning 5-0 thanks to a brace from Callum Robinson and goals from Tom Barkhuizen, Aiden McGeady and Tom Clarke.

This result didn’t do much for the league table due to other results going their way, they remain just one point above the relegation zone, but it was particularly humiliating for the club and now the board are seriously considering Johnson’s position at the club. The club’s ownership are set to have a meeting about Johnson’s future at the club on Wednesday with the first team squad set to have a briefing shortly after, increasing speculation that the former Barnsley man may be set to get his P45.

However the thing that may keep Johnson in the West Country is the fact there are very few games left in the season. Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown isn’t sure whether causing a massive change in the management would actually do much to change form right now, especially as a potential new manager may not have enough time to enact the changes which could save them from relegation. However we may get the answer to whether Johnson gets sacked after the meeting on Wednesday.
