Nottingham Forest must have self belief to survive the drop

Nottingham Forest head coach Mark Warburton has told BBC Sport that his team must have self belief if they want to avoid being relegated.

Forest only got a point in their last match with Preston North End getting the equaliser through Aiden McGeady after Britt Assombalonga opened the scoring. This means that Forest are still in the thick of the Sky Bet Championship relegation battle as they are currently 20th in the table, just two points above 22nd placed Blackburn Rovers.

Warburton is confident that he’ll be able to stop Forest from returning to Sky Bet League One and has said his players have the talent to do it. But he added that these players need to have more confidence in themselves as he believes that if they do, they will easily move away from the bottom three and not have a tense final few days of the season.

He said: “They have the quality, they have the ability,”

“It’s now about having the self-belief in how good they can be week in, week out.”

He has seen glimpses of this so far as he was happy with the performances in their last two matches, even if they were draws. He added: “It’s all credit to the players and their approach,”

“They’re good professionals and if you give quality people like that structure, guidance and simple messages, they respond accordingly.”

“We’re working hard day in, day out on the training ground. We’ve got a lot of work to do still, both staff and players, but I’ve no doubt about their commitment, work ethic and desire.”

“To walk away from a place like Preston with a point and be disappointed tells you we’re in the right place.”
