Newcastle United are more than likely to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking this season. However, their eyes are cast lower looking at a player from Sky Bet League Two.
The Toon are said by Alan Nixon in today’s Sun to be very interested in bringing Blackpool’s exciting youngster Bright Osayi-Samuel to St James’ Park over the summer. Nixon says that “Toon spies have seen Samuel get his form back” and that the club are lining up the exciting 19-year-old for “a summer move.”
The youngster has featured in 35 games across all competitions for the Tangerines this season, scoring five times and creating three goals for teammates – four of his goals have come in the league. This total includes three in his last three games with a brace in a 3-1 win over Newport County being the highlight.
As well as interest from the Magpies, Nixon also reports that fellow Championship side Aston Villa are interested in bringing the left-sided midfielder/winger on board at Villa Park, Nixon saying that “the pair may fight it out for him.”
Blackpool turned down a £500,000 bid for Samuel in the summer, according to Nixon’s article, and are said to be holding out for a £1 million fee in light of the two relegated Premier League sides entering a transfer tug-o-war.
Whatever happens over the summer, with interest high in Osayi-Samuel, it looks increasingly remote that the Tangerines will hold onto their prized asset who looks to have a ‘Bright’ future ahead of him.
