The international break came at the right time for Sheffield Wednesday. Apart from an emphatic win over Norwich City, they had struggled for a few weeks and it was only due to Fulham slipping up that they didn’t drop outside the play-off places.
So the international break was a welcome relief for Wednesday who needed some players to rest up after picking up minor injuries and simply a bit of time to reset as they head into the final part of the season. But it would be straight back into the frying pan for the Owls as they were set to face Barnsley in their first game after the break, a South Yorkshire derby who would be very keen to get one over on their rivals.
And while Wednesday thought for the longest time they would be bouncing back, they suffered a late equaliser which will make them nervous they are about to lose their play-off spot. After a dull start, things would start to get more entertaining towards the end of the first half with more and more chances being created. However it was most memorable for someone throwing a Peppa Pig plush toy onto the pitch, stopping play for a short while.
In the second half though, Wednesday would take the lead. Sam Winnall, who only left the Tykes in the January transfer window and has been the subject of a lot of talk in the build up to this match, finished off well after Adam Reach won the ball high up the pitch and the game seemed to be Wednesday’s for the taking.
But Wednesday suffered a huge blow when late on after a set piece, Angus MacDonald was able to head in for Barnsley. And they could have got a win with some of the chances they got late in the game.
After coming close to slipping up big time against one of their rivals, Wednesday fans were angry with the usual calls to see Carlos Carvalhal sacked coming out.

Not called for his head once, but now it's time for Carlos to go. If you can't get that squad promoted you aren't the man for the job #swfc

Complete inability to see out games… I sometimes have more hope of us winning in the last 10 minutes if we’re drawing. #SWFC

Nothing but a win works today. Didn't care how, know we didn't deserve it, we had to hang on. #swfc
