Stoke City Latest Club To Be Linked With Leeds Defender

According to a report in The Mail, Premier League side Stoke City are the latest side to have an interest in Leeds United left back, and academy graduate, Charlie Taylor.

Taylor, who is still only 23 despite racking up 83 league appearances for the Whites, attracted a lot of Premier League interest at the beginning of the season; with Liverpool and West Brom two of many clubs said to be interested. However, the report claims that The Potters are the latest club to keep tabs on last seasons Leeds United Player of the Year.

At the beginning of the 2016/17 season it was revealed that Taylor had handed in a transfer request to the club, which was immediately rejected by owner Massimo Cellino. This resulted in the Premier League interest, however the club managed to keep hold of the youngster.

Although the club rejected the transfer request, Taylor and his agent had previously rejected a contract extension at the club meaning that his contract will be up at the end of this season. Because of this, the player will be able to move on for a small tribunal cost, as the player is only 23. If he was 24 or older he would be entitled to leave the club for nothing, however the tribunal fee is unlikely to put off any Premier League interest.

It is unknown why the contract was not accepted by Taylor, however it is known that he has the same agent as former player Sam Byram. While discussing new contract terms for Byram, his agent reportedly fell out with owner Cellino and refused to accept the contract; which may have influenced Taylor’s decision.

When the end of the season does come it will be no surprise if the left back, who has been through Leeds’ academy ranks, does depart; unless new 50% co-owner Andrea Radrizzani can offer a better deal for the Taylor which may tempt him to stay at his boyhood club for just a bit longer.
