Charlton’s Voice of The Valley Fanzine has leaked the ticket prices and plans for The Valley next season. In the 25th year since Charlton returned to their spiritual home, Roland Duchatelet and management will be closing four blocks of the stadium and raising season ticket prices in eleven blocks.
Charlton Athletic continue to be a mockery as they fail to release news regarding the club first. A similar situation occurred when Russell Slade was fired by Roland Duchatelet and his management. In fact, the club itself were the last to release a statement, declaring his sacking.
The same is happening once again, but this time it is in regards to Duchatelet and Katrien Meire’s plans for The Valley next season. This year marks the 25th anniversary since Charlton Athletic fought so hard to return to their spiritual home, after being exiled by the local council. It seems that the disconnected management at the top, would like to mark the special occasion by raising season ticket prices in eleven blocks, and symbolically deciding to close four blocks of The Valley next season.
The four blocks which are being affected, are blocks A and B in the East Stand, which is home to the families of Charlton, and on the opposite side of the stadium, in the West Stand; Duchatelet and Meire will close blocks H and R.
Allegedly fans which are currently seated in these blocks have been called by the club itself, and have been told that the changes taking place are to increase the atmosphere at the ground. However, I think most of the footballing world, and especially Charlton fans know, that the only way they are going to increase the atmosphere is if they sell the club.
Adults and Over 65 fans will face a £25 increase on their season ticket prices in comparison to last season, in 11 east and west stand blocks, if they decide to renew. However, there are £25 reductions for others and large cuts in east block stand G and family stand.
Charlton Athletic currently find themselves five points above the drop zone, sitting in 16th, bearing in mind that the Charlton management and Russell Slade said that top six was a minimum requirement, and they had a top six budget, it is fair to conclude this season has been another outright failure. However, the club have found it justifiable to close four blocks on our 25th anniversary back at The Valley and raise prices in eleven other blocks. I have made the hard decision, and rather sickening decision, to not renew next season.
