Former Wolves ace linked with Rangers role

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Alex Rae is being linked with an assistant manager role with Glasgow giants Rangers according to the Daily Record.

The 47-year-old is one of a number of candidates thought to be being considered by The Gers to assist new manager Pedro Caixinha.

The Portuguese boss is looking to bring in someone who has a close relationship with the club to work in a number three role at Ibrox. It is understood that former Wolves midfielder Rae met with Caixinha last week to discuss the role while Rangers have also held talks with former Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City midfielder Barry Ferguson and former Newcastle United and Birmingham City striker Peter Lovenkrands.

Rae spent almost three years of his career at Molineux between 2001 and 2004 and was voted the Fans’ Player of the Season while he won promotion to the Premier League with the club in the 2002/2003 campaign. The midfielder made 107 appearances for Wolves in total and scored 15 goals.

Known for his tough tackling and venomous shooting, Rae left Wolves in summer 2004 to re-join former club Rangers. The player won a Scottish Premiership and League Cup double in his first season back at Ibrox. Rae is a popular figure amongst Rangers supporters and the midfielder could return to the club for a third time in the coming weeks.
