Charlton Athletic’s Chief Scout forced out of The Valley

Charlton’s Chief Scout, Steve Head, has departed from The Valley according to the London News Online. It is understood that his departure is due to Karl Robinson’s restructuring plans.

The London News Online revealed today that Charlton’s Chief Scout, Steve Head, has left Charlton Athletic after only filling the position for approximately 10 months.

Steve Head originally joined Charlton back in May 2016, before Charlton’s first manager of the season, Russell Slade, was in charge.

It is understood that Head’s departure is due to Karl Robinson’s restructuring plans, and Steve Head is not part of Charlton’s future. In his recent interviews, Robinson made clear that as the season comes to an end, the gaffer is preparing to implement his own ideas at The Valley. A new Chief Scout could be one of several backroom changes in the next few months, in order for Robinson to truly leave his mark and to ensure that Charlton is operating within a framework he sees fit.

Robinson’s previous managerial stint at Milton Keynes’ Dons lasted six years (2010 – 2016). In that time, MK Dons and Robinson’s identity became synonymous, and the Charlton manager will be looking to have a similar effect in Southeast London.

It is important that Robinson finds someone swiftly to fill this vacant position, as Charlton look to rebuild under the new gaffer in the summer and can ensure a successful season in the upcoming campaign. The Charlton manager stated in January that they had already begun preparation for the summer transfer window, so it is most likely that Robinson already has someone in mind to replace Steve Head.
