Championship clubs eye bargain summer move for Newcastle midfielder

Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff is attractions the attentions of several Sky Bet Championship clubs, according to the Daily Mail. The 19-year-old has impressed out on loan at Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock this season, meaning his list of admirers continues to grow week-by-week.

The teenage made the move to the Scottish club in January for the remainder of the season alongside Magpies teammates Cal Roberts and Freddie Woodman. Since then, he has become a key member of manager Lee McCulloch’s squad as Killie look to avoid ending the season in the bottom six before the end of season divide. Longstaff however could be playing his football elsewhere next season.

Even returning to St James’ Park and breaking into the Newcastle United first team isn’t necessarily a given due to the fact his contract expires at the end of this season. Head coach Rafa Benitez therefore will have a decision to make, unless he already has done so. Whilst the club hope to be back in the Premier League next season, that surely isn’t going to affect the outcome of if Longstaff warrants a new deal with the club.

Nevertheless, should Longstaff be forced to seek pastures new, he clearly has a long list of clubs in the English second-tier hoping to snap him up. He is the nephew of former Celtic and Aston Villa midfielder Alan Thompson, and has impressed ever since netting on his Kilmarnock league debut against Ross County in January. The video at the bottom of the page shows Longstaff striking the very late winning goal. He may have only played nine times in total, but he has already made a big impression. Continue to do so for the rest of the season and who knows where Sean Longstaff may end up.
