Fleetwood Town tie down stalwart to an extended two-year contract

Sky Bet League One promotion contenders Fleetwood Town celebrate great news today in the fact that midfielder Bobby Grant has extended his contract with the club. The Cod Army are able to call upon the services of Grant for an extra two seasons until 2019.

Only David Ball has scored more goals for Uwe Rosler’s side this season in their quest to play in the Sky Bet Championship next season for the first time in their history. His eight goals has played a big part in their successful season to date, and he has been an ever-present in their campaign to date as well.

Grant says he is finally pleased to get the new deal over the line, meaning he can now fully focus on their crucial remaining games in what could be an historic season,

“I’m very happy to be part of what we are creating here.

“I spoke to the manager recently and to Gretar on Monday and I’ve been speaking to the chairman. For me it got sorted in the last couple of days and hopefully we managed to get everything sorted.

“The dressing room this year has been fantastic. The lads we’ve brought in and the lads who were still here – we have a close dressing room and you can probably see that on the pitch.

“I think for me to sign a contract is shows that I’m willing to commit myself to Fleetwood and it gives other people rewards as well.

“It’s about security. Fleetwood is a place where I’m happy, and I think when you’re playing football you have to be happy.

“I’ve signed a contract now and I’m really looking forward to the future.”

He made the move to Highbury Stadium from local rivals Blackpool in 2015 and has made over 70 appearances in total since then. Since coming through the ranks and impressing at Accrington Stanley, Grant has enjoyed a productive career to date. Scunthorpe United paid a big fee for him in 2010 but that move didn’t turn out as hoped. Several loan moves followed before he joined Blackpool in 2013. He had the briefest of loan spells at Fleetwood in 2014, before he joined permanently the following year.
