Slavisa Jokanovic bemoans not being able to stop Helder Costa

Fulham head coach Slavisa Jokanovic has told Get West London that they lost against Wolves because they couldn’t stop Helder Costa.

With 6th placed Sheffield Wednesday losing on Friday night to Reading, the Cottagers had an ideal opportunity to climb into the play-off places with a win against Wolves. With the Black County side not being in the best of form this season, it seemed like it would be a done deal that Fulham would get all three points.

But instead they ended up losing to Wolves in a 3-1 defeat. Ivan Cavaleiro scored after converting Costa’s cross and they doubled that lead after the start of the second half with a goal from Andi Weimann. There was some hope for Fulham when Denis Odoi pulled one back for the West London side but the result was sealed when Dave Edwards restored the two goal lead.

For Jokanovic it was incredibly frustrating that for the second time in a row they missed out on getting into the play-off places, blaming their loss on the fact they couldn’t deal with the ability of Costa.

He said: “Helder Costa killed us. There were two situations that weren’t so dangerous for us, and he created things for his two team-mates to put it in the empty goal.”

“We weren’t solid enough to stop him, and if you concede two or three goals it’s not easy to find a good result.”

“We concede so many goals. I miss winning 1-0. We can avoid the first, second, and third goal if we’re a little bit stronger and more solid in this kind of situation.”

“We gave them some charity presents during the game, and we paid an expensive price for this situation.”
