Sheffield Wednesday fans react to another loss against promotion rivals

Once again, Sheffield Wednesday were close but not close enough as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Reading tonight.

The Owls breathed a sigh of relief during the week as Fulham messed up their chance to overtake them in the league and take their spot in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs. This was down to one of their own, with the loaned out striker Lucas Joao scoring the late equaliser to make sure that Wednesday stayed in the top six.

But once again the South Yorkshire club will have to look over their shoulders as they suffered another loss, this time against a team that is looking up at the top two rather than fearing they will drop out of the play-offs. Reading grabbed an early lead through Yann Kermorgant and they refused to lose it, working hard to make sure Wednesday saw very little of the ball and even time wasted at times. It was all about getting those key three points for the Royals.

But what will be most frustrating for Wednesday fans is that towards the end, they looked like they could have grabbed an equaliser. They had plenty of chances, probably more than they had in the rest of the game, but they were stopped by Ali Al-Habsi. The goalkeeper had one of the games of his life, simply stopping any shot that came his away. Then just to put the stake into the heart of Wednesday, Reading broke and David Popa scored to seal the victory for Reading.

As you can imagine, the fans were not happy.
