Sky Bet Championship leaders Newcastle United must deal with the absence of full back DeAndre Yedlin for at least another five weeks as the player continues to battle to overcome a thigh injury according to the Chronicle Live.

The 23-year-old Seattle born right back has missed The Magpies’ last two matches with the injury and it is believed that the player is some way from making a full recovery.

It has been reported that the defender has travelled to his homeland to get a specialist’s opinion on his thigh problem and Yedlin is expected to miss at least five weeks of action while any more lengthy muscular damage could see the player ruled out for the remainder of the current campaign.

Yedlin started his career in his home city with the Seattle Sounders before moving to the English Premier League to join Tottenham Hotspur. The player struggled to make an impact at White Hart Lane and was loaned to Sunderland last season where he helped The Black Cats avoid relegation to the second tier.

After being deemed surplus to requirements at parent club Spurs last summer, Newcastle United completed the signing of Yedlin in August for a reported £5 million transfer fee and the player has gone on to make 28 appearances for The Magpies with the American having scored his first goal for the club in the 2-0 win at Derby County back in September.
