Championship giants Newcastle United are close to bringing in highly rated young French centre-half Mickael Nade, according to TalkSPORT.
The 18-year-old defender is being monitored by Newcastle as well as Austrian juggernauts Red Bull Salzburg, who see the Frenchman as a potential replacement for Dayot Upamecano, who left for sister club Red Bull Leipzig for £10 million in the summer.
Despite the promise of potential European football in Austria, it’s largely expected that the teenager will choose the Magpies, with the lure of a professional contract, at a potential Premier League club proving too strong to resist.
Currently plying his trade in the youth ranks at French Ligue 1 side St. Etienne, Nade is yet to make his first team debut in Ligue 1, but continues to impress in the youth ranks.
With his contract up in the summer, Nade is expected to refuse a new deal with the French side in search for first team football elsewhere.
He would be joining a Newcastle side likely to be playing Premier League football next season too. Rafa Benitez’s side remain top of the table despite a 3-1 humbling at the hands of Fulham, who themselves are pressing to break into the top 6 come May.
Benitez is keen to bring in defensive reinforcements, as with Ciaran Clark ruled out with a knee injury, the Magpies have just 3 natural centre-backs fit, and Nade could provide good cover for the first team next season.
It has been reported that there is a concrete offer on the table, so expect the Frenchman to sign up in the near immediate future.
