Slavisa Jokanovic warns big Newcastle United win is in the past

Fulham head coach Slavisa Jokanovic has told Get West London that they must put their big win against Newcastle United in the past and move on.

While the Cottagers did beat Newcastle in the opening game of the season, it wasn’t expected that they would get the double. Newcastle had recovered from their sketchy start to the season and top the Sky Bet Championship while Fulham are still trying to break into the play-off places.

However they would claim a massive win as they ran out 3-1 winners over Newcastle with a brace from 16-year-old Ryan Sessegnon and a beauty from Tom Cairney cancelling out a goal from Daryl Murphy. But while manager Jokanovic was obviously delighted to win this game, he has told his players that it is now in the past and that they must now concentrate on their match against Blackburn. It’s another huge one as if they win, they will go into the play-offs.

He said: “Newcastle is in the past now. We are now concentrating on what is in front of us. We don’t live in the past. We live in the present and future,”

“We take confidence from it and that’s it. We have games in front of us in the Championship. We are fighting with some teams who have more points than us at the moment.”

“We’re going to try and cut the distance to the top six. This is our fight right now and Blackburn is solely what we’re thinking of in this moment.”
