While it was a huge disappointment for Sheffield Wednesday to draw with Burton Albion, there was still plenty of renewed optimism around Hillsborough this week.
Their 5-1 win over Norwich City seem to have finally showed Wednesday the path to promotion, the team that would finally get them hitting the stellar form they just haven’t quite touched on yet. Quite simply, it was putting Fernando Forestieri on the wing and their January transfer window signings Sam Winnall and Jordan Rhodes up front. it created more options up front and worked to devastating effect against Norwich.
But in a huge blow for the Owls, Forestieri was not named on the team sheet for today’s match against Aston Villa. It was reported after this news came out that the playmaker had suffered a knock on his knee during the game against Burton, but it is unknown to what extent this is. Will he be back for the match against Reading next week, one of the most important of the season? Could he even be out for the season?
With head coach Carlos Carvalhal usually not willing to tell the press how long a player is set to be out for, it’s a question that won’t be answered until team sheets are released each week. But with Forestieri now back in the hearts of Wednesday fans after he angered so many by trying to leave last summer, many were disappointed by his injury and believe they might not beat Aston Villa in their match today. though many are still hopeful of a result with the rest of the quality in their squad, even though many of them are also out injured!
Time for Winnall and Rhodes to step up now #swfc
