Aston Villa will be looking to return to winning ways when they face Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Bet Championship at Villa Park this afternoon.

Villa suffered a first defeat in four matches in midweek when they lost 1-0 at Huddersfield Town and Steve Bruce’s side will be aiming to get back on track against the Play Off chasing Owls.

The home side go into the match with a number of injury problems with midfield trio Birkir Bjarnason, Jack Grealish and Andre Green all ruled out. Experienced defender Alan Hutton is set to return to the side following a knee injury.

Sheffield Wednesday make the trip to Villa Park with Carlos Carvalhal’s side currently occupying the final Play Off spot.

Owls boss Carvalhal is sweating over the fitness of several players ahead of the match with Almen Abdi, Sam Hutchinson, Callum McManaman and Ross Wallace all facing late fitness tests. Striker Steven Fletcher is pushing for a recall to the starting line up.

Sheffield Wednesday’s last visit to Villa Park came back in November 2001 when The Owls defeated Villa 1-0 in the League Cup 4th Round courtesy of Efan Ekoku’s first half goal. Wednesday defeated Villa by the same scoreline at Hillsborough when the two clubs last met on the opening day of the current season.
