Norwich, relegated from the Premier League last season, haven’t been able to capture the form of fellow relegated side Newcastle, an  inconsistent season seeing them sitting in eighth place and nine points outside the Play-Offs.

The last six games has seen the Canaries struggle to maintain any kind of consistent flight, the Norfolk side having only one win in their last six games. A 5-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday at Carrow Road had tongues wagging and fingers pointing in manager Alex Neil’s direction.

Those tongues have ceased to wag, the fingers no longer point as Neil has been relieved of his duties by the club. A statement released on the club website said that: “The Board has taken the tough but unanimous decision [to sack Neil], believing it is in the best interests of the Club for a new manager to be in place through a crucial summer transfer window and into next season.”

The bookmakers are already onto this. Following are the five favourites as per Sky Bet, with this manager being the fifth-rated to take over the reins at Carrow Road.

Mark Warburton – odds 10/1

Londoner Warburton was most recently in charge of returning Scottish giant Rangers, until leaving the Glasgow side on February 10 this year. Before that, he cut his teeth at Sky Bet Championship side Brentford moving from assistant coach to sporting director to manager, where he managed the Bees for 78 games.

Warburton spent 20-or-so months at Ibrox, managing Rangers between June 15 2015 and February 10 this year – a span of 82 matches.

54-year-old Warburton has managed 160 matches in his career, winning 96, drawing 29 and losing 35 – gaining an average of 1.98 points per game.

Next up are two Alans who Sky Bet see as the fourth and third choices in the running for the vacant Norwich job.
