Everton want 16-year-old Football League wonderkid

Everton are set to sign League One Bury starlet Callum Styles in the summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 16-year-old broke into the first-team at Gigg Lane this season and has accumulated eight appearances this term. Styles made his professional debut in a 3-2 victory against Southend United last season in May but Bury were later deducted three points following the younsgter’s appearance after the club had not registered him properly.

Styles, who is the first Englishman born in the 21st century to play professional football, is heavily scouted by a number of high-profile clubs. It now appears that Everton are reportedly set to sign the starlet the summer.

The Toffees are keen on signing young talent and have blooded many youngsters in their first-team this season. Ronald Koeman signed 19-year-old Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Sheffield United last summer and paid £7.5 million for 19-year-old Ademola Lookman in January. The Dutch boss is not afraid to test the newcomers, with Calvert-Lewin thrown into a fixture with Arsenal for his debut and Lookman playing against Manchester City for his first game in the blue shirt.

If Koeman believes Styles has the talent, the Premier League club have the cash to lure the starlet away from Gigg Lane and give him an opportunity at the highest level.

Bury are fighting for survival in League One and sit in 19th spot, four points above the relegation zone. Lee Clark’s side travel to Oldham Athletic on Saturday. The home side are just one place below Bury in the third-tier and would move above the Shakers with a win.
