Stevenage duo Matt Godden and Darren Sarll have won the Sky Bet monthly awards for February, as announced on the EFL website today.
The pair have been the driving force in Stevenage’s success since the New Year and pick up the Manager and Player of the Month awards for their contributions last month. The League Two club, led by manager Sarll, won five games from six in February and moved into the play-off spots.
Striker Matt Godden, who signed in the summer, bagged an impressive six goals last month to fire his club into sixth place in the fourth tier. The 25-year-old has accumulated 20 goals this term and scored a brace in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Notts County. The third-top scorer in League Two was happy to win the award but quick to thank team mates, “I am delighted to win Player of the Month. It is a big honour and something I am very proud of.
“It has been a great month and I am in the form of my life. As a team we have been doing fantastic recently and it has been a perfect storm.
“It is nice to get individual accolades but I couldn’t do it without my team-mates.”
The manager was just as important as Godden in February’s 16-point haul and was equally happy to win the monthly award,
“I am very pleased to receive this award which I will collect on behalf of the players and staff.
“Without either, February would not have been as rewarding as it was. We have positioned ourselves nicely and this award goes to recognise the excellent form we are currently in individually and collectively.
“March must now reflect the foundations laid as we have now set standards far higher than ever before.”
The Boro travel to Luton Town on Saturday in an important clash against their play-off rivals. Sarll’s team could move as high as fourth with a win.
