Huddersfield Town boss wins Manager of the Month

Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner has been named the Sky Bet Manager of the Month, as announced on the EFL website today.

The 45-year-old has led his team to an automatic promotion battle this season and February proved to be an important month as the Terriers’ moved to third in the Championship. Wagner’s side won five from six fixtures last month including vital wins against Reading, Leeds United and second-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.

The German boss is crucial to Huddersfield’s success but was quick to thank his staff after winning the award, “As was the case in August, I only accept the February Manager of the Month award on behalf of every player, member of staff and everyone else connected with this special club, Huddersfield Town.

“We enjoyed such good results because of the excellent, consistent level of performance from every player in the squad. That happens because of self-belief, trust in each other and hard work every day at the training ground.

“I’m very proud of everyone in this group; it is a pleasure to work with this squad and staff.”

February’s wins over promotion rivals mean Huddersfield are in third spot and three points above Leeds with a game in hand. Wagner’s team are six points adrift of Brighton in second.

Following the 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday, the Yorkshire club travel south to Brentford tomorrow. The 12th-placed Bees will be full of confidence after going their last four games unbeaten and picking up all three points at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
