Premier League side chasing £12 million Newcastle striker

Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace are reportedly eyeing a deal to bring £12 million-rated striker Aleksandar Mitrovic to the club, according to ClubCall.

Mitrovic arrived on Tyneside in July 2015 from Belgian giants Anderlecht for a £13 million fee and with great fanfare surrounding him, and in his maiden season he notched 9 goals in 34 games.

Despite his best efforts, the Magpies were relegated to the Championship, but many expected ‘Mitro’ to set the league alight this season, with his physique seemingly perfect for Championship football.

However, it hasn’t turned out this way, and the Serbian front man has found the net just 4 times in 19 games this season. His poor run of form has seen him drop below Dwight Gayle, Ayoze Perez and Daryl Murphey in the pecking order.

Rafa Benitez is clearly ready to offload the Serb, but Newcastle will be in no rush to offload him, and will hold on until they recoup at least the majority of the £13 million they paid for him.

Sam Allardyce’s Crystal Palace are now reportedly sniffing around, with Palace lacking any real threat up top. Christian Benteke is misfiring and Wilfried Zaha is now almost solely relied upon for goals, so bringing in a focal point up top will be one of Big Sam’s main priorities this summer.

After having splashed out over £20 million on Patrick Van Aanholt and Jeffrey Schlupp in January, Palace clearly aren’t afraid to spend big, so it’s unlikely that the £12 million asking price will scare them off, but as of now no official bid has been made.
