Magpies to continue interest in Forest midfielder

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is set to continue his interest in signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn according to the Mirror.

The 22-year-old Derby born midfielder has been a huge positive for Forest in an underwhelming season for the club and The Reds are expected to have to fend off interest in the player in the summer.

Forest’s Sky Bet Championship rivals Newcastle United are believed to have made an initial enquiry over the midfielder’s availability in January and it has now been reported that Magpies boss Benitez could follow up his interest in Osborn in the summer by submitting a significant transfer bid for the player’s services.

Osborn was on the books of hometown club Derby County as a young boy but was released by the club after just one season and joined the Nottingham Forest academy.

The midfielder graduated through the various age groups at The City Ground and made his first team debut for the club in a Sky Bet Championship match against Ipswich Town in March 2014. Since making the breakthrough into the Forest senior side, Osborn has gone on to make 123 appearances for The Reds and the player has scored nine goals.

Osborn is under contract with Forest until summer 2020 with the youngster having signed a new deal with the club last August.
