Scunthorpe United succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at The Valley on Tuesday evening against Charlton. A late penalty concession was converted by The Addicks, Tony Watt, which extended Scunthorpe’s winless run to eight. Iron fans have taken to Twitter to react to their disappointing defeat.
A volley in the 33rd minute by Charlton skipper Johnnie Jackson saw Charlton take an unexpected lead in the first-half. However, Scunthorpe’s Van Veen was able to peg one back half-way through the second half in the 75th minute. In the closing stages of the game, Jorge Teixeira was brought down in the box which allowed Tony Watt to step up and convert from the spot. The final result 2-1 to the Addicks, meaning Scunthorpe extend their winless run to eight.
The Iron remains in third place, three points behind second place Fleetwood Town. However, the Cod Army have a game in hand. Scunthorpe must get back to winning ways as only three points separate them from sixth place Millwall. A continue of disappointing results and the dropping of points could see the Iron drop out of the possible promotion spots altogether.
Scunthorpe United fans have taken to Twitter to make clear their feelings on the current predicament and the result on Tuesday evening.
The effort was there for the final half an hour, but questions certainly need to be asked about the first half, it was men against boys #UTI

People need to realise Madden is a waste of time; his virtually open goal miss cost us the game. Van Veen and Hopper up top is a must #UTI

Punished for having a player in the form of his career in the first 5 months of the season. #UTI

it's not just him though, several players form has deserted them. No confidence. Not willing to create chances. #UTI

Still can't believe we lost after turning that game on its head. Only 1 team in it last half hour & we still blew it… #UTI @SUFCOfficial

Can anyone recall such a dramatic and fathomless fall from grace, in any division, anytime in recent history ?

Sounds like another piss poor first half display has cost us again – leaving us with way too much to do. Can't see a way out of this 😢 #uti

How are people calling for Alexander Out at this stage of the season? He's the only person in my opinion who can sort this out #UTI

Really depressing result though 😔. We are losing games from nothing. Very little chances created against us tonight. So so frustrating #UTI
