Chris Wood – The Story So Far

Chris Wood currently sits at the very top of the Championship’s goal scoring charts. The big man has 22 goals already this season but it hasn’t always been fun and games for the current Leeds United striker.

Kiwi Wood began his career at Waikato FC but it was at Hamilton Wanderers where his goalscoring exploits caught the eye of West Bromwich Albion.

After a successful trial at the club, Wood carried his rich vein of form into both the West Brom youth academy and reserve team. At the end of the 2008/09 season, he was rewarded with his first professional contract at the club. However, in his spell at the club he managed just 27 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.

Wood was shipped out on loan to Barnsley, Brighton, Birmingham, Bristol City, Millwall and Leicester all in his time with the Midlands club. The striker chipped in with goals at every club on his travels and eventually, following an emergency loan, found the place he wanted to settle in Leicester City. Leicester went up Championship champions that season with Wood contributing eight goals to the cause in all competitions.

Back in the Premier League again, Wood will have been keen to prove himself with a different club but with competition high from the likes of Leonardo Ulloa, Wood was eventually shipped out on loan by Leicester to Ipswich Town in February 2015.

Despite returning to Leicester after his loan spell, it was in the Summer of 2015 when Wood signed for the club where he’s been most successful at to date.
