Carlisle United’s first team was chased by dogs while training in a park in Plymouth according to a report from the Plymouth Herald.
In something that is a rarity down in Sky Bet league Two, Carlisle’s owners decided to fund an overnight trip when the Cumbrians made the 780 mile trip down to Plymouth this weekend. But while money was spent making sure that Carlisle players had a hotel to stay for the night, they did not spend money on getting a professional training pitch for them to work on.
This meant that Carlisle had to train on a local park in order to prepare for their match against Plymouth, and social media pictures have shown it wasn’t an ideal surface. And to make things worse, Carlisle’s players and footballs were chased by dogs while they were training in a situation that every Sunday league team in the country will be familiar with.
Someone who saw the Carlisle players arriving, Danny Robinson, said: “I noticed a group of roughly 20 chaps walking across the road towards the park,”
“At first I thought it was probably a local team but as I approached the coach I could see a “Carlisle United” sign in the front window.”
“I parked up to see what was happening after shouting “Come on Argyle” out the window!”
“They seemed to be doing light jogging as opposed to ball work.”
“To be fair they looked in their element,”
“Until a couple of dog walkers got in their way and a dog chased after them that is!”
“They probably still had dog poo on their boots which didn’t help them on Saturday!”
It certainly didn’t, as they would go on to lose to Plymouth in a 2-0 defeat.
