Leeds United fans react as Chris Wood comes of age and hits 21

Earlier in the season, as Chris Wood seemed to find it hard to lay boot on ball, Leeds United fans were jeering what they likened to a bull’s arse and banjo approach. Those jeers have died down somewhat.

With the jeers ringing in his ears and the insults ringing around social media, it took a last-gasp equaliser vs Fulham at Elland Road with a Wood overheard kick and a cupped ear to the Kop to kick-start Wood’s season.

It is now  a season that is definitely purring, with the big Kiwi hitting the straps and being the main factor behind Leeds United’s increasingly secured Play-Off position – the Whites sitting in fourth position before kick-off at St Andrews tonight against Birmingham City.

As the referee’s whistle blew to start the game, Chris Wood was joint top-scorer in the Sky Bet Championship with 20 goals; it didn’t take him long to claim the top placing all for himself. 13 minutes was all it took for the Kiwi captain to notch his 21st of the season.

That goal, Wood’s 34th goal in 64 starts for the Whites, moves the Kiwi ahead of Newcastle’s £10 million man Dwight Gayle in a league where there are a number of players are vying or the chance to be the Sky Bet Championship’s Golden Boot.

Wood’s early goal certainly caught the opinions of Leeds United fans on Twitter who were quick to comment on the score.

Here’s Wood’s goal again in super slow-mo.

Stav sees Chris Wood as a bit of a cash cow and bookie basher.

A great comparison, and one that is definitely true on the face of the improvement.

It’s not just the goals that are catching the eye though for some Leeds fans.
