Preston North End’s Chris Maxwell has signed a contract extension with the club that will keep him there until 2020 as confirmed by the club website.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper has been at Deepdale since he signed for the club from Fleetwood Town in the summer of 2016. He has been a great signing for the Lilywhites as well, performing well in between the sticks as Preston reach 9th in the Sky Bet Championship. And while his future at the club had been secured for a long time, his previous deal lasted until 2019, Preston decided to make sure Maxwell doesn’t even think about leaving by extending his deal until 2020.

Now the question for Maxwell and the rest of the Preston team will be if they can make it into the play-offs. Maxwell himself has called for the team to up his performances as they have a real chance of breaking into the top six, with other players joining the call over the last few weeks.

After signing the new deal, he said: “I’m absolutely delighted. It is fantastic knowing that I’m going to be here for an extra year as well.”

“It gives me an opportunity to help progress Preston North End and hopefully progress myself in the process.”
“When I first came here I said I wanted to make the No.1 shirt my own, I wanted to play week in, week out for Preston North End and at the moment I’m doing that.”
Maxwell can celebrate his new contract by trying to get a win against Fulham on Saturday.
