Former Blackburn Rovers boss linked with Motherwell job

Former Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle is the current favourite for the managerial vacancy at Scottish Premiership club Motherwell according to the latest odds provided by English Football League sponsors Sky Bet.

The 50-year-old Scot was sacked by Rovers last month after a poor run of results with the Lancashire club embroiled in a relegation battle in the Sky Bet Championship.

Paisley born Coyle managed to win just 11 of his 37 matches in charge during his time at Ewood Park while Rovers won just one of the five matches played prior to his departure.

It has now been reported that Coyle is the current front runner for the managerial vacancy at Scottish Premiership club Motherwell. The Steelmen are currently occupying the relegation Play Off spot in the league table and are in a dismal run of form which has seen the club lose their last four matches which includes a 7-2 defeat at Aberdeen and a 5-1 home loss to Dundee. Those disastrous results saw former Well boss Mark McGhee lose his job earlier this week.

Former Blackburn Rovers boss Coyle last managed in Scotland almost a decade ago with his previous experience coming at Falkirk and St Johnstone. In 2002/2003, he guided the former into the Scottish Premiership after winning the old First Division. Coyle won more than half of his matches in charge of both clubs and if appointed, Motherwell will be looking for a similar impact.
