Jacob Murphy delighted to score against fierce rivals

Norwich City’s Jacob Murphy has told the club website how delighted he was to score against Ipswich Town today.

The Canaries once again took on their East Anglian rivals, with the Norfolk side battling just as much to get back into the play-off picture as they were for pride. However things were now going well as just after the hour mark, Jonas Knudsen scored against the run of play to give Ipswich the lead.

However this seemed to show Norwich that they had to do something if they didn’t want Ipswich to get the spoils and Murphy, an academy graduate who has played Ipswich a lot for their youth side, managed to get the equaliser just a few minutes later with a strike from thirty yards.

And after coming through the academy and being told of the importance of this match constantly over the years, Murphy was delighted to become a hero after grabbing the leveler.

He said: “It’s an amazing feeling have grown up playing against Ipswich in the mini-derbies,”

“To score in the main thing is a great achievement for me. I’d watched the goals from the previous games and Nathan [Redmond] scored a similar one the season before last at the near-post.

“I knew the goalkeeper would be vulnerable at the near-post so that was my thought process. You’ve got to exploit weaknesses and that’s why I put it there.

“We needed the equaliser, we didn’t deserve to be a goal down having dominated most of the ball.”
