Aston Villa Ladies make superb start to the season

Aston Villa Ladies have made an excellent start to their new season with a trio of victories in both the FA Women’s Super League 1 and the Women’s FA Cup.

Villa’s 2017 spring campaign started earlier this month with a Women’s FA Cup Third Round home tie against Cambridge United Ladies, a match which they won by a huge 7-1 scoreline before Joe Hunt’s side backed up that victory with another home win over Watford Ladies (3-2) in the FA Women’s Super League 2 and a 1-0 success at lower league outfit Coventry United Ladies in the Women’s FA Cup Fourth Round.

The Aston Villa squad are clearly settling down well ahead of the new restructured winter campaign which is set to start in September and Villa clearly look like the team to beat in the stop-gap FA Women’s Super League 2 Spring Series which runs between February and May.

Last season saw Aston Villa finish in sixth place in the league table, 15 points behind both Yeovil Town Ladies and Bristol City Women who were promoted to the FA Women’s Super League 1 but Hunt’s side now look more equipped for the challenges ahead in 2017.

Aston Villa play their home matches at The Lamb, the home of National League North club Tamworth with admission prices set at just £5 for Adults and £1 for Under-16s and Over 65s and the FA Women’s Super League continues to become one of the fastest growing competitions in the UK.

The club’s next home fixture is on Sunday 5 March when Millwall Lionesses are the visitors to The Lamb (kick off 2pm).
