Bristol City, Robins boss handed second vote of confidence

Robins boss handed second vote of confidence

Under-fire Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has received a second vote of confidence from the club’s majority shareholder Steve Lansdown according to the Bristol Post.

The 35-year-old has endured a difficult campaign at the helm at Ashton Gate with The Robins currently sitting just one place and two points above the Sky Bet Championship relegation zone.

Bristol City initially started the 2016/2017 season in good form and were challenging for a place in the Play Offs until a mid-season collapse has seen the club tumble down the table at a rapid pace.

After winning just one of his last 13 league matches in charge, City manager Johnson is understandably coming under some real pressure from fans at Ashton Gate however majority shareholder Lansdown has insisted that he retains belief in Johnson’s football philosophy.

“It is a difficult situation” Lansdown told the Bristol Post. “We want to win some matches and get some points to get in safer position for next season.

“We hear what people are saying and their discontent and I understand that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

“I don’t think it helps that during the game the crowd is negative. You could see the players visibly shrinking in that scenario. By all means have your moans and groans before the game and after the game but not during.

“The club is better than that and we need to focus on getting the results” Lansdown added.

“I just believe in what we are doing, we brought Lee in for a particular reason. I don’t want to give up on him.

“We have a good squad of players and we have 14 games to really dig in and get ourselves safe.

“It is going to be tough tomorrow (against Newcastle United), what I am looking for is a good performance.”

Bristol City face Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday in their next match in the Sky Bet Championship.
