Chris Maxwell wants Preston North End to be in play-off hunt

Preston North End’s Chris Maxwell has told the Lancashire Evening Post that they should be involved in the hunt for a play-off spot.

The Lilywhites haven’t really looked like challenging for a spot in the top six just yet but it is certainly possible that they could make a go of it in the last few months of the season. They are currently 10th in the Sky Bet Championship and are nine points off 6th placed Sheffield Wednesday, meaning a good run of form could see them involved in that fight.

And Maxwell believes that fighting for a spot in the top six should not be a hope for the team but an expectation. But before they can even think about getting promoted, they have a tough obstacle in their way in the shape of QPR who are likely to pose a tough test as they travel up to Deepdale.

He said: “If players say they don’t look at the league table, they’re lying a little bit,”

“You do have a look now and again.”

“How you look at the table is important though.”

“Certainly myself and a few others were looking at the teams above us and not behind us.”

“We’re not looking at teams that could dislodge us.”

“We’re thinking about if we get three points where will it take us?”

“We can go up to eighth on Saturday, which is just below the play-offs.”

“Things can change in a couple of weeks and we’ve just got to make sure we give ourselves the best possible chance by winning games.”
