High-flying Sheffield Wednesday are likely to finish above local rivals Leeds United in the final Sky Bet Championship standings, according to bookmaker Sky Bet.
The Whites come up against Carlos Carvalhal’s side at the weekend with both sides tied on 58 points, occupying 5th and 6th in the current table.
The West Yorkshire side go into the game having picked up four points out of their last three games. Wednesday slipped up to a 2-1 defeat to Brentford in mid-week, but a win over Leeds will make it three wins on the bounce for Carvalhal’s side, potentially moving them up to 4th in the standings.
Sky Bet, who also sponsor the EFL, believe that Wednesday will finish above Leeds in the final table in May, offering odds of 4/7 in the ‘Sheffield Wednesday To Finish Higher Than 16/17’ market.
This is also reflected in the ‘Leeds To Finish Higher Than 16/17’ market, with ‘Leeds to finish higher than Sheffield Wednesday’ being priced above evens at 5/4.
Out of the teams currently sat in the top 7 in the Sky Bet Championship table, Garry Monk’s side still have to face Brighton, Fulham, Newcastle United and Sheffield Wednesday.
Whereas Wednesday have a slightly easier run-in when it comes to playing teams at the top, facing Fulham, Leeds United and Newcastle United.
Speaking ahead of the game, Monk told LUTV that “Sheffield Wednesday are a really strong outfit and are having another good season as expected.
“They added to their squad in the summer and in January, they are a very good team all over the pitch”
The two sides have already met once this season, with Leeds running out 2-0 winners at Hillsborough in August thanks to goals from Marcus Antonsson and Chris Wood.
