Leeds boss praises Sheffield Wednesday ahead of huge promotion clash

Leeds United boss Garry Monk has praised Sheffield Wednesday ahead of Saturday’s game between the two sides.

The Whites come up against Carlos Carvalhal’s side at the weekend with both sides tied on 58 points, occupying 5th and 6th in the Sky Bet Championship table.

Whilst speaking to LUTV on Thursday, Monk admitted that he knows the danger that Wednesday possess as they look to overtake his side at Elland Road.

Ahead of the game, Monk said that “Sheffield Wednesday are a really strong outfit and are having another good season as expected.

“They added to their squad in the summer and in January, they are a very good team all over the pitch”

Monk continued on to discuss the game and what the right result could mean for his side. “All derbies are different,” the 37-year-old stated, “but they mean a great deal to everyone and our mentality is to try and win the game.

“Elland Road has been great for us, some of the atmospheres this season have been incredible & the support has got us through.

“This game will not define the season, but there are three very important points available on Saturday”

The West Yorkshire side go into the game having picked up four points out of their last three games. Wednesday slipped up to a 2-1 defeat to Brentford in mid-week, but a win over Leeds will make it three wins on the bounce for Carvalhal’s side, potentially moving them up to 4th in the standings.
