Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Charlton Athletic and Millwall are tracking Sutton United’s Roarie Deacon over a potential move in the summer according to a report from The Sun.
The 25-year-old midfielder came through the Arsenal academy but eventually slid down the leagues after also being part of the Sunderland academy before being signed by Sutton in the Vanarama National. Many players would be forgotten after dropping out in the EFL but Deacon reminded everyone of his talent in Sutton’s miraculous run to the last sixteen of the FA Cup where their run was ended by Arsenal on Monday night.
While the column inches may be getting taken up by the controversy surrounding their reserve goalkeeper Wayne Shaw after an investigation was started against him by the Gambling Commission after he ate a pie on the sideline, Deacon is now attracting attention of his own with teams from the EFL now plotting to make a move when the transfer window opens again in the summer.
Five teams are reported to be interested in signing Deacon with Cardiff, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Charlton and Millwall, who have had their own brilliant run in the FA Cup, all scouting Deacon with a view to sign him in the summer. For the former Stevenage man, it would be an ideal chance to return to the EFL after dropping out in the summer though it may be tough for him to leave a club that gave him a chance to rebuild his career and eventually shine in front of the BBC Sport cameras.
