Huddersfield Town: Loan Watch

Huddersfield Town have numerous players on loan elsewhere in the Football League and abroad. I take a look at how the Terriers are performing at their temporary clubs.

Jason Davidson

After featuring heavily last season, accumulating a huge 30 appearances, the defender was sent on loan to Dutch side FC Groningen for the entire campaign. The 25-year-old had started life in the Eredivisie well, and quickly accumulated nine appearances by October. Davidson had started nine of the opening eleven games to the season in the Dutch top-flight, including a 2-0 win over UEFA Europa League club AZ Alkmaar, and was first-choice left-back at his new club. However, the Australian international has not featured for his club since October. While he may have fallen out of favour, Davidson will have gained valuable experience in one of Europe’s best leagues by playing against the like of PSV Eindhoven and FC Twente.

Kyle Dempsey

The youngster broke into the Huddersfield first-team last season, making 24 appearances, and was quickly loaned to League One club Fleetwood Town in the summer. Dempsey has flourished at Highbury Stadium with consistent displays in midfield and played an important role in his loan club’s rise towards the top of the third-tier. The 21-year-old has racked-up 31 appearances for Uwe Rosler’s side and is gaining valuable experience. Fleetwood are currently fourth in League One and are just two points away from an automatic spot. With the appearances under his belt, plus the education of a promotion battle, Dempsey may be in and around the Huddersfield team next term.

Jordy Hiwula

The promising striker has spent the majority of his time on loan since joining Huddersfield and was sent to Bradford City for the full season in the summer. Hiwula has been a vital player for the Bantams this term in their promotion march. The 21-year-old, who has proven to be a handful for away sides at Valley Parade, has made a massive 38 appearances for the Yorkshire side and bagged 11 goals. Bradford’s top goalscorer played and scored against Terriers teammate Kyle Dempsey last week as Fleetwood won three points in a 2-1 victory over Bradford. Like Dempsey, Hiwula is gaining valuable game time during his loan spell and is again involved in an important promotion push, with his temporary club sitting in 5th spot.
