Sessegnon, Premier League giants sniffing around Championship starlet – £8 million

Premier League giants sniffing around Championship starlet – £8 million

Manchester City are said by The Sun reporter Alan Nixon ready to join Tottenham in vying for the signature of Fulham’s teenage defender Ryan Sessegnon.

However, starlet Sessegnon’s capture will not come cheaply with Manchester City, who drew 0-0 yesterday with Championship side Huddersfield in the FA Cup, said to be plotting to spend £8 million on the young left-back who is still only 16.

Sessegnon, who joined the Fulham set up with his twin brother Steven in 2008 as an Under-9, has represented England 13 times at youth levels (Under-16 to Under-19) scoring three Under-16 goals for his country.

The London-born teen has made the transition to Sky Bet Championship football in a smooth manner, making 14 appearances for the Cottagers and impressing observers with his seemingly natural flair and composure. In all, he has featured 18 times for Fulham across all competitions this season scoring four times (two in the Championship and two in the FA Cup) as well as laying on three assists.

Nixon reports that Manchester City view left-back as a problem area at the Etihad and, rather than waving the company cheque book at a more experienced player that “they could have their answer in  teenager.” Nixon goes on to say that Guardiola’s City are not put off by the fact Sessegnon is still a 16-year-old saying that: “Despite his age, the fact he has the attacking flair Guardiola demands makes him a priority target.”

Fulham next play relegation-threatened Bristol City on Wednesday in a game where eyes could very well be focused a little more on young starlet Sessegnon, his performances scrutinised a little more deeply.
