Leeds United loanee hails Garry Monk and the fans

Transfer deadline day saw Swansea City’s Modou Barrow join Leeds United on loan for the remainder of the season. The Gambian expressed his reactions at his first month at a club the size of the Whites to the South Wales Evening Post.

Barrow moved to Wales from Swedish club Ostersunds FK in 2014 for a fee believed to be around £1.5 million but struggled for game time with Swansea this term. The Gambian international made his début for Leeds in a 2-1 loss at Huddersfield Town and was quick to comment on Yorkshire club’s support,

“The atmosphere has been brilliant to be honest, even at the away games. I’ve been on the bench against Huddersfield and now I’ve played at home against Bristol [City], the crowd have been fantastic,

“The atmosphere is fantastic. It’s different from Swansea. Swansea fans are really good but Leeds fans are always amazing.”

Leeds boss Garry Monk was the Swansea manager at the time of Barrow’s arrival in the Premier League and Monk is joined by fellow familiar faces Kyle Bartley and Matt Grimes at Elland Road, both who played at Swansea with Barrow, and have been important in helping the loanee settle at his new club,

“It has been very good, I am settling in. the lads have taken care of me and it has been good to fit in,” he said.

“I know a few of the faces, I know them from back home at Swansea so I know what Garry wants and what he expects from players so it is good to work with him again.”

Modou Barrow is impressed with Monk’s management techniques and states he has improved since managing the Swans in the Premier League,

“I think he will want the same from me as everyone else in the squad. To work hard for each other and play well together as a team and he will want me to take any chances I have, and help as much as I can.

“He has developed, I have not been here long, only two weeks, but what I see is that he is very happy with the squad and he is getting better. He is giving everything for the squad and the team and I think it is great for the club and fans to have a manager like him.”

Leeds travel to Ipswich Town at the weekend.
