Coyle, Blackburn Rovers close to sacking Owen Coyle

Blackburn Rovers close to sacking Owen Coyle

Blackburn Rovers are currently considering sacking Owen Coyle as their head coach according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Lancashire club went to Hillsborough yesterday for a tough game against Sheffield Wednesday. And while they did come close, they ended up losing 2-1 with a brace from Vincent Sasso cancelling out an own goal from Sam Hutchinson. The game would end with controversy when Hope Akpan had a potential equalizer ruled out due to a handball, with the midfielder responding by pushing the referee. He would then be sent off for this.

And the misery of seeing your team go down in such a way may be the last time Coyle takes to the touchline as their situation in the Sky Bet Championship gets worse and worse. The loss against Wednesday saw Rovers drop to 23rd in the league, deep in the relegation zone though they are just two points off 21st placed Burton Albion. And this recent defeat has angered the ownership and they are seriously considering Coyle’s position at the club and deciding if a change in management could change their fortunes.

It has been a frustrating time for both coach and the ownership, with Coyle being irritated that he couldn’t bring in the players he wanted during the January transfer window. Now he will be hoping to have a stay of execution so he can try and turn things around at Ewood Park, and that could start by claiming a historic upset against Manchester United in the FA Cup at the weekend.
