3 things we learned from League One this weekend

The League One table took yet another turn this weekend as there were a few shock results at both ends of the table, taking new teams into the play off spots as well as others into the relegation zones.

Billy Sharp is leading Sheffield United to the title

The Blades left it late to secure victory at Peterborough with Billy Sharp’s 87th minute to send 4,000 following fans home happy, made all the more sweeter by Scunthorpe’s home defeat which sends United 5 points clear. They have been known to “bottle” promotion from League One in recent years but it would take something huge for them to not be playing Championship football in August.

Cracks are showing in Scunthorpe’s promotion bid

Scunny could have been excused for their defeat to an in form Southend side last week but yesterday’s home loss to relegation candidates Shrewsbury United points to the idea that Scunthorpe might just have to settle for the play offs. The pressure of Bolton breathing down their neck is enough pressure as it is for the Iron, what they don’t need is poor losses like this one.

Off field woes aren’t affecting Bolton

The debt Bolton Wanderers have and the troubles they face off field certainly aren’t spilling over on to the team as they are doing everything they can to force their way into a promotion spot. Even the loss of Zach Clough hasn’t stopped the wins coming, and with Scunthorpe flapping accompanied by the game in hand Wanderers hav on them, you would be surprised if they didn’t manage to go up automatically.
